Aleksandro-Praskovinka Toys

These toys get their name from the village of Aleksandro-Praskovinka (Ryazanskaya oblast, Central Russia), where the making of clay toys has been known since the 19th century. They are actually whistles (“ulyutki”) in the form of birds, horsemen, ladies  wearing the kokoshnik (a tall headdress), wet nurses with two babies and soldiers with an accordion. They are distinguished by their decorative stripes and green glaze.
